  1. As of now Dempsey is the goat with Pulisic on a clear path to surpass him. Donovan showed great promise early on in his career especially with his performance in the 2002 WC, but did not move the needle as much as Dempsey or Pulisic with how the world views American players.

  2. As someone who has followed all three guys' entire careers, I'd say that Donovan is the best in terms of USMNT by a wide margin. He was a guy who was always focused on doing what it takes to actually win matches. He'd run as hard as any player on the pitch, and play whatever role was required of him. Dempsey was a better out-and-out striker. He was selfish and ruthless, and many times that was what the USMNT needed, but there were also plenty of times that it hurt the team. I genuinely believe that Dempsey and Donovan complimented each other, and I think the 2014 WC could have been much better with both of them there. Pulisic has the potential to surpass Donovan as the USMNT GOAT, but he needs another six years of high-level play with a lot of team results in order to do so. That said, Pulisic has clearly had the best club career playing internationally.

  3. Pulisic has exceeded the others in club accomplishments, and is nearly there for country, in my honest opinion. He will undoubtedly far surpass them by the end of his career.

  4. As a long time Mexico fan who was scared of Donovan and Dempsey for several years, I can say noone has brought more concern and pain to me than Pulisic. And the worst part is knowing he isnt even done yet lol.

That said I hope both our teams tear it up in 2026!!

  5. for me it's gotta be Tim Howard, even though you eliminated him, long time Preimer League keeper, was an absolute legend and beast for the USMNT when it mattered most. But out of the 3, Dempsey is my man as a Fulham fan. But also as a local for the quakes, Landon will always be a legend.

  6. I just don't understand the logic of using club careers to determine the best USMNT player, to me it's like saying Ronaldo is the best Juventus player of all time because he won the champions league for Manchester United and is the leading goal scorer worldwide.

I'd strictly look at their contributions for that specific team if I want to know the best.

  7. Also he is the “overall” proponent of Concacaf football and to the USA and Concacaf to me that’s Huge!!!! Donavan I am talking about. I also was under the impression from Goalazo tv that Landon was the Worlds leader in “Assist “

  8. Landon : #1 domestic MLS player, & international player at present. Oh, and don't forget he recieved the golden boot at the 1999 youth WC as the best player of that tournament.

Clint Dempsey: US – #2 intn'l club player (was #1 until Christian Pulesic) #2 (Tie) US – Internationally

Christian Pulesic – #1 US International Club player, Tied for #2 Internationally due to accomplishments, but lacks World Cups. Overall #1 Prospect overall considering his age.

Honorable mention: Tim Howard limited as a GK, Claudio Reyna limited by too many injuries (which his son seem to be on a similar tract – hope I'm wrong)

  9. The only thing about Donavan is he brings more leadership strength to the ranks. Pulisic is clearly on a path to outranking all U.S. players.

I'm not giving Pulisic the crown till he retires unless he wins the world cup, the Ballon d'Or, or something crazy like lead scorer in a club championship or Champions League…

  10. Im sorry but what Landon did for us is much greater than anything Pulisic has done. Pulisic has to be a big player against big nations which we haven’t seen just yet.

  11. Barring the unforseen it should eventually be Pulisic. Right now? It's either him or Donovan. Dempsey was great but wasn't quite the creator that Donovan was. Yes he had a better club career, but I think it's pretty obvious Donovan could have played at a very high level if he wanted to do so. After all, in his short stints he was actually very good at Everton.

  12. Beasley didn’t even get a mention? Too bad. Love that guy. He’s everything American players should aspire too.

If Clint had gone pro early instead of going to college, he would be topping this list.

  13. Tim Howard isn't even our best ever goal keeper imo. For me, it's incredibly close among all 3 of them but its:
    1A. Kasey Keller
    1B. Brad Friedel
    3. Tim Howard
