  1. I'm brazilian and fan of Flamengo, Zico is the best brazilian player after Pelé and Garrincha, is the biggest idol of Flamengo, he won our first Libertadores and World Championship of Clubs in 81, an idol inside and out of the field for us.

  2. Looking back on it, Brazil in 1982 were not really a team – only a brilliant midfield – probably the best in World Cup history. To emphasise this point, in the match against Italy, Serginho and Eder were non-existent and their defence was cut apart nearly every time the Italians counter attacked. Of their four midfielders – Cerezo, Socrates, Zico and Falcao – Zico clearly did not like being tightly marked by Gentile and little was seen of him. The other three though were quite superb but Tele Santana must have known that his strength was in going forward from midfield.

It would have been against the Brazilians nature to play defensively – that would have been disastrous but even the Brazilians showed their innocence when with the score at 2-2 they did not try to play ‘Keep ball’. If they had done that in their own half and around the half-way line, they might just have hung on to draw and go on to win the World Cup.

But the Brazilians’ were not adept enough, or nasty enough to do that and they went down gloriously, playing real old-fashioned attacking football.

  3. The 1982 Brazil team which Zico was a member of was probably the best ever in the history of the game and the world cup. Who can forget their captain..Dr Socrates. Simply the best team that has not won the world cup.

  4. As a Japanese national, I cannot thank him enough for what he has done for the Japanese soccer.
I'm privileged to have watched Zico
    in '78, '82(what a team!), and '86.
    Muito obrigado, Zico!

  5. Если честно признаться Зико третий великий игрок в истории футбола в Бразилии, впереди Пеле и Гарринча а потом Роналдо , Ромарио,Сократес и мн др

  6. If Careca was on that team, they would've won in my opinion. He scored 5 goals in 1986 and he was the best striker for Brazil at the time but he got injured before 82
