The American sports media lied to us (maybe). Here’s the case that a supposed national icon may have been unjustly put on that global pedestal.

  1. The gaslighting isn't about Pulisic or any player specifically. He's just the latest vehicle for the parts of US sports media who are almost fanatically determined to make football internacional "happen" in the states. I remember it as far back as the 1994 World Cup. The same types were greatly overstating likely competitiveness of the US team just because the Cup was being played in the US. Alexi Lalas' epic goatee was their chosen vehicle at that moment.

  2. America has the talent lol … our best athletes just play other sports … if we were a soccer country & developed our studs on the pitch, USA would be unbeatable … imagine lebron going up for a header or Tyreek running past everyone lol good luck

  3. I’m Brazilian and I’m not into “our” football
American football is way more entertaining
And of course, my favorite, baseball!
Nobody understands me here lol ???

  4. How is the world cup not surprising anymore?
2018: Croatia make the finals and we have the highest scoring World Cup Final in the 21st Century.
2014: Germany smash favorites Brazil on home soil 7-1
2010: Spain winning the world cup was impressive because at the time and even today that team had many incredible but underrated players
2006: Zidane. All I need to say
2002: Turkey finished 3rd, South Korea finished 4th, France were knocked out in the group stage and this was the beginning of the infamous "World Cup Curse"
1998: Brazil being a complete husk in the Final due to Ronaldo's illness and France winning their first World Cup 3-0
I could go on and on about examples of how the world cup can shock people every time it happens. And yes, while the winners are getting a bit predictable, everything else about the tournament is absolutely not. Love the video tho.

  5. As long as there is an entrenched pay for play system through out the youth ranks, this is going to be our collective ceiling as a nation. If US Soccer gave to shits, they'd have the likes of Eric Wynalda in the fold who knows how to spot and develop talent outside the current paradigm. Another part of the Pulisic scenario is due to his Croatian heritage and passport, he was allowed to start his professional career at 16 where US passport holders have to wait until 18. In those European development academies, their scouts look for talent and soccer IQ, not just raw athletic ability, allowing for players to actually develop. The MLS is getting better (particularly the FC Dallas youth ranks) but still has miles to go. Take a look at the U-20 squad who just cleaned up in the recent CONCACAF, qualifying for both the U-20 World Cup and the Olympics as there are a lot of really talented young men (CADE COWELL!) who are poised to be big names come 2026 when we are cohosting with our lovely Mexican and Canadian neighbors. I can't wait. Great vid man, thanks for all your work.

  6. Even saying that the World Cup is predictable is suuuuch an American thing to do. It's not particularly predictable. There is just a relatively stable one or two tiers of traditionally competitive nations at the top. Within that hierarchy, it's super unpredictable. And nations (like the Czech Republic, Portugal, Denmark, Uruguay, Chile and more) do move in and out of serious contention all the time.

  7. Tim Howard was the best American product to play in Europe. The rest were flops with players like Donovan and Bradley. In the States most of the top players either come from the upper middle class or are children of first-gen immigrants who come from cultures that love soccer (i.e. Latin America [besides Cuba, Puerto Rico, the DR and Venezuela, who have baseball], the Arab world and Europe [besides Russia ,Finland and Sweden, who have hockey]). When mentioning the big sports in America you forgot to mention hockey, that is huge in the upper Mid West and Northeast.

  8. american exceptionalism is a problem in general and that’s why they make pulisic out as “the lebron” of world football. american mindset is “he’s OUR best so he’s THE best” (saying this as an american, btw). Lastly, COYS!

  9. As an American why would I ever watch soccer with football basketball and baseball. It’s a decent sport but it doesn’t compare to our already amazing domestic sports markets

  10. Nobody is saying this guy is world class, and those who say that he’s the lebron james of soccer have no knowledge. The soccer community in the US is just as educated as any other soccer community, so we recognize this. However, he is a very good, young player and anybody who tells you anything else doesn’t know the game.

  11. The FotMob average rating metric is pretty flawed. Look up his goals + assists per 90, pretty sure he’s only behind Mount at Chelsea. He was also instrumental in Chelsea’s champions league run and became the first American to play in the final. The argument about media hype for the World Cup is also pretty baseless, there will likely only be one media outlet that reaps the benefits from the tournament, probably fox, so that correlation doesn’t make sense. The American soccer media is incredibly flawed and I’m pretty disappointed this video did not cover what I was expecting it to. For example the us soccer media, mainly fox and espn, favors MLS players instead of those playing in Europe who many think are better players.

  12. prior to this generation of soccer in america the only americans to play in europe were dempsey and tim howard hes getting this attention because it’s an accomplishment for an american to play on a top 6 english tram
