  1. i dont think people realise how much a single club costs, theirs legit a brand new feild built in vermont south melbourne and costed 100m+ and worth every penny BUT yall need to calm down, focus one all the facilities currently not being used and empty iv seen heaps

  2. Government money is only one small part to making a sport financially viable. TV revenue, corporate sponsorship is why AFL, NRL, Cricket are successful. Football/Soccer needs viewers outside of just World Cups to gain more funding. The A-League Men's and Women's comps are struggling for viewers that's why they don't have the money.

  3. Unfortunately, this will become a political football now (no pun) with each side one-upping each other other female sports funding. Soon enough, the Govt. will be spending $500 mil annually on women's sports when $50 mil would have satisfied the demand of athletes and audiences.

… and guess who's going to be subsidising the additional costs? That's right, the male division.

  4. While funding is crucial, ensuring the money is spent effectively is equally important. One significant milestone for England was the establishment of St George's Park, the National Football Centre located in Burton, Staffordshire, which has been operational for over a decade. It serves as a training ground for all teams and a hub for educating and training current and future coaches.

  5. They did alright. Min US$180,000 for each player. Plus Australia gets US$2,500,000. How does that prize money get divided up? Massive increase in 2027, equal prize money with men means over 400% more than current $110million to be shared next time.

  6. yes this world cup has given more exposure to many in our country, but unfortunately soccer is not as popular as rugby, AFL and cricket, so thats why there is not enough funding for football/soccer. Until that is resolved, you wont get the level of football that you see performed by the Europeans ( England, Germany, France, Spain, Netherlands etc) and even by the South Americans ( Brazil, Argentina, etc)

  7. if Australia wants to be a football nation, like England, Germany, Spain, France etc then yes they need more funding for their development even to grassroots level.

  8. I am not always aligned with Fozzie but I have never doubted his passion for our footballers. He is spot on here. Thanks Craig Foster for your commitment here. Bloody legend.

  9. Sports don't have a God given right for more funding. Also, I've been a massive football(soccer) fan my whole life, but I find this drive for it to take over in every country a bit macabre. It's great that there are a diversity of sports in the world what's the point of soccer dominating everywhere.

  10. We are your new arch-nemesis! We always consider Aussies are our sporting arch-nemesis. With my fellow Brits, I remember having an epic sporting banter battle in the USA with some Australians. The Americans present tried to chip in with the Super Bowl, both groups just laughed an Australian guy made some sarcastic comment about American football then both Brits and the Aussies turned on the Yanks. It was hilarious, American cannot do banter very well

  11. Love Mr Foster does great job for footy in Australia. Hes right the current government has to ait down woth soccer Australia. Plan out our Olympics and next men and womens world cups.

  12. Channel 10 & Paramount (mainly 10 being the free-to-air platform) have a massive responsibility now to keep the momentum going considering you have the rights to A-League Men & Women…
