1. Comparing this soccer team winning a po-dunk MLS cup to Don Shula winning Super Bowls? That's like comparing winning the Mountain West to winning the Super Bowl. You guys really need to cool your jets. Losing credibility with the national audience quickly.

2. The first Super Bowl didn't matter either, and now it's the biggest championship in North America and the trophy is named after the coach that won it. Not that this Leagues Cup will ever become the Super Bowl, but you never know how events will look in retrospect.

9. By the way, in the rest of the world? The league champion wins the championship by being the best team over 30 games. Or however many games. There are no playoffs. In Futbol, instead of post-seasons, they have separate (yet in-season) single elimination Cup competitions that grant other rewards for winning. For example, Miami, by dint of winning the Leagues Cup, not only gets to compete in the Champion's League (between Mexican, American, and Central American franchises) they get home field advantage for the first few rounds. The MLS cup champion is rated higher. They get to skip the wild card round, if you will, and hold home field advantage for the first few rounds. The shit is different but not THAT different from American sport.
